Why do people get addicted to drugs?
By :Awdhesh, Awdhesh
It is a matter of wonder why people get addicted to harmful substances like ciggrette, alcohol, drugs knowing fully well the harmful consequence on the health?
What is you explanation for such illogical behavour of man?
If we study the patterns of addiction to harmful substances, the sequence is as under:
1. A person takes a drug for the first time just to see what happens.
2. The intensity of the experiment or the focus of mind on the object and its effect is bound to give some pleasure, irrespective of the object of experimentation.
3. Most of the people stop at the first experimentation but some others think there is nothing wrong in trying it ONCE AGAIN. They feel they are not so weak-willed so as to fall prey to the drug just by one more experimentation.
4. This second experiment kills. Use of the same substance twice has the propensity to create physiological as well as psychological dependence on the substance. Even the first time use may create this dependence in case of Heroin. Tobacco is another substance which would quickly make a person physiologically dependent on it. Logic does not work here. It is only with a mountainous effort that one can come out of such a dependence. Therefore, knowing fully well that the drug a person is taking is extremely harmful to him, he has no option. Almost.
