Pathways to happiness?
By :DD, DD
I found the article Pathways to Eternal Happiness by Dr Awdhesh Singh to be so contrary to my own beliefs and experience that I have forced myself to express my dissent.
2. It seems to me that the learned author has used the term HAPPINESS and ETERNAL HAPPINESS interchangeably. It appears that it seems to him that higher levels of happiness can be termed as ETERNAL HAPPINESS. I believe that happiness is usually a result of some action or happening, while ETERNAL HAPPINESS results only from non-action i.e. samadhi.
3. The learned author lays down the tests of happiness and according to him, if a person likes his own country, spouse, parents, children and religion etc and has YES to most of these tests, he will be a happy person. In my view, such a person can only be miserable while a person answeringNO to these questions will be still more miserable. Eternal happiness can come only from neutrality to all these factors.
I believe that happiness is the state of mind. Either you are happy or you are not. The justification which is produced by the mind comes much later. Happiness is related to soul hence beyond the control of mind. Yet through mind one knows happiness.
If your soul is in synergy with the Soul of the World or God, then you feel connected with every soul in the world. Hence you like everything around you like your wife, your children, your country, your job etc. However, in case, your soul is not in synergy, you feel left out and feel pain instead of happiness.
Eternal happiness is the form of happiness which last for much longer period. The short-time happiness may include pleasure, pride etc which last for shortwhile. Anything that pleases soul and make it stronger lost for much longer period and we can call it eternal happiness.
The state of samadhi or neutrality to everything can be a way to avoid pleasure of senses and body, thus a path toward eternal happiness yet it may not lead everyone to happiness. They cant be blamed as happiness is not a matter of definition but a matter of realisation.
