Man Made Values and Man Made Conflicts
  By : Awdhesh Singh

What are the most important things in life? You may perhaps think food, water, shelter, clothing, love, etc. These things are not really difficult to achieve. Most people in modern world already have all these needs satisfied and even ensured for future. The nonmaterial things like love is anyway available free of cost and everyone can acquire it.

Yet there is no peace in the world. People are fighting with each other. Everyday, there are blasts, murders and wars where man is killing man. Most of the people are not fighting war for satisfying their needs.

Yet they are fighting. Why?

They are all fighting for something which has been made very important for them?

The Psyche of Conflicts

Wars and conflicts cause loss of human life and destruction of properties. It also breaks the faith of humanity towards other people. People fight war when they believe that the other side can not be convinced by any logic. They fight for something which is more important than their life. Therefore, in order to cause war, man has invented  “HUMAN VALUES” and convinced the people that these values are even more important than life. This alone can motivate people to take life and give their own life.

There are many human values like human rights, freedom, patriotism, racism, religion, communism, democracy, rule of law, kings etc. which are considered by different societies more important than the life of human beings.

The list of such human value is infinite and divergent. However, what is considered immensely valuable in one country or society may not be considered of valuable in other societies.  Right to Freedom may be the most important value for Western world and democracies, yet it is given least importance in communist and Arab countries. Yet it is difficult to say if the people of the so called free countries are any happier than the people of the countries who restrict the freedom of their citizen.

In the same way, for some countries, religion and the following the scripture is considered to be so fundamental that a person violating scriptures may be put to death. They have convinced the people that being religious are most important thing for life. However, in many other countries, religion is considered to be a personal matter and it has no value in the social fabric.

In modern time, people often consider a system of governance so valuable that they can fight war for it. The Cold War between America and Russia that lasted for many decades, divided the world into two halves, has its origin in the concept of governance. Even now, the democratic world is fighting battle with socialist China on one hand and the Religious fundamentalist nations on the other.

The origin of the World War II can be traced with the concept of Nationalism and Racism which was made so important that almost the entire generation of youths disappeared fighting war with the people of same religion and same ethnicity to protect what they considered sacrosanct. The same people are now crossing the nations and changing their nationality like cloths. The entire Europe is again becoming one as the boundaries of Nation State are breaking every day. This shows that nothing was really so important that people should have fought wars with their brothers.

Some Values Are Dangerous

The best way to avoid war is to understand that nothing created by man is sacrosanct and without motive. Every single principle benefits some people and causes loss to others. Hence, instead of getting trapped in these motivated principles, man has to understand the fundamental laws of existence. He has to understand that every man is created equal and the distinction of nation, state, religion, language is only man-made. These are just the ploys by clever politicians to divide the humanity so that they can get the benefit by breaking the unity between man and man. They have to understand that God has created only love. The hatred is purely a creation of man to serve the ends of few powerful people. Once people can understand this simple truth, all conflicts can disappear from the face of earth.
