 The Hierarchy of Power
  By : Awdhesh Singh

Power refers to the ability of a person to perform a task. Power is desired by every human being. We feel inadequate without power. However, we often criticize people with power since they exercise control over us and force us to do things without our wish. Power creates fear and often terror in the mind of many human beings.

Yet power is desirable as it is an attribute of God. No society can exist without powerful ruler and no organization can survive without powerful leader. God is believed to be the most powerful Being and He has been referred as Supreme, Omnipotent or Almightily.

Therefore, it is natural that all people should desire power as everyone feels incomplete without power. While power is often equated with physical power as is in the case of animals, it is hierarchical in case of human beings where the physical power rest at the bottom of hierarchy of power.

The power has a clear hierarchy in the human civilization which can be described as following.

Physical Power

We may call physical power as Animal Power as all animals have physical power. It is often referred as raw power or muscle power also. Physical power can be defined as the capacity of a human being to do work physically. Men are generally more powerful than women in physical strength and have more power. Physical power is more direct and physically visible. The physical power can be enhanced by the intake of highly nutritious food having high protein and fat and doing lot of physical exercises and workouts.

Often people consider physical power as most important. Most movies show the heroes to have well developed muscles and he is seen as demolishing dozens of people by his sheer physical power. Yet in reality the physically powerful people are valued at the lowest and they are paid the lowest of the salaries when they are employed as bouncers or musclemen by the rich people.

Mental Power

Mental power is superior to physical power as the human mind is extremely intelligent having the capacity to analyze and plan. In modern times, emphasis is laid on the increase of the mental power. A child is sent to school from early years so that he can do mental exercises like memorizing, calculations which increases the mental power of the person. A person, can however, be mentally strong even without going to schools provided he takes challenges and learn from his victories and defeats. A mentally powerful person is a great asset for any organization as he can analyze the situation and find answers based on the best knowledge available in the world. They are appointed as managers, bureaucrats, accountants and paid a good salary.

Emotional Power

The mental power is the best that can be created by the practice and education and hired from the market. It helps a person solve a problem in the traditional ways using the best practices. However, mentally powerful people cannot see the future and cannot let the problem from arising.

There are some people who have the capacity to know the mind and hearts of other human beings through their intuition and they can see what is beyond the eyes and mind. Such people are called leaders as they can connect with the emotions of other people and they can rule the mind of other human beings. These people can see the future as they can understand the feelings and emotions of others. The leaders often create their own origination and they cannot be employed by anyone. It is they who carve the future and employ people with physical and mental power.

Spiritual Power

The power of the leader is quite potent on the human being. Yet there is always conflict in the leadership as all the leaders do not share the same vision. Leaders are the people who are after the material pursuits and their followers join them in the pursuits of material benefits. Hence they often try to enhance their power by curbing and even destroying the power of other people so that maximum benefit can be provided to their followers. It can be seen that all leaders try to create conflict in this world and it is only by dividing and rule they prosper.

Yet there are people, who have no material desires and they have the capability to see through the entire humanity from their intuition. They are the people who are like God since their souls are so connected with God that their thoughts and knowledge has become divine. They confront the leaders and they unite all people. The spiritual power is Supreme as it is the power of God that He exercises through His chosen human beings. The world calls such people as Prophets, Avatars and even God.

Rise in the Hierarchy of Power

Every human being has the natural desire to acquire the spiritual power as the destiny of all human being is to become divine. However, the spiritual powers cannot be acquired immediately as one has to transact different layers of power to reach to the top. A man has to become physically strong as the healthy mind lives only in a healthy body. The emotional power is the next natural step when a person develops control over the mind of fellow human beings and he is able to guide a large number of people by providing them leadership. It is only a great leader who can then acquire great spiritual power when he starts working for the benefit of humanity rather than the interest of the self and few followers. Sometimes it may take several lives to acquire spiritual power as most people are not able to rise beyond their physical and mental level in their entire life.
