Holi ke Rang phoolon se sang………
“PLAY HOLI ……….NATURALLY AND ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY!”
Wishing my readers a very colourful and happy Holi. But honestly, I never been a sucker for holi. Yeah, i love all the colours, water balloons, but never super - excited about the festival. Perhaps it was the good and disciplined child in me that refused to partake in un-blase fun. Let me explain –tons of firewood burnt for no reasons (not a very colder season) gallons of potable water is splashed, toxic colours are spread in the name of fun.
I personally believe in natural colours (e.g haldi, tesu flower, beet root, rose petals, mix of lime and haldi gives beautiful colour, spinach leaves and mehndi).Definitly it require a lot of patience and labour to make colour from it.I want to emphasise this because these colour are not good for health and environment as well..Commence of this festival gave me apportunity to express my eternal feeling about the festival and its empact on environment. This is not the question of Holi. Sound, air and water pollution in Diwali, Durga puja Ganesh Chaturhti, is similarly point of consederation.
Holi is the most colourful festival of our country.Holi is prime festival of Vrindavan and Mathura where it was celebrated with geart tradition with natural colour. Do we realise its significance? Holi is festival of “triamph of good over evil” .For HOLIKA DAHAN trees are cut and burnt. In some of the Fisherman community Holi is celebrated for five days, every day one tree is cut and burnt. Is it worthy? So what is our duty? To educate them? Certainly yes .Now the ingredients of GULAL have been changed …..toxic gulal , which gives irritation to skin and blindness to eye.
Holi celebration does not reflect its actual meaning. Cutting tree, burning tree, toxic colour, wasting water, polluting water, does not explain the relevance of Holi.It can be a environment friendly, as colourful as rainbow, as green as nature, as fun as immemorablle enjoyment. So my humble requet from you is please take a pledge to save our nature and make Holi memorable for ever.
