I am a spiritual person and having respect of all religion and strong belief on almighty. Diversifying belief and cultural richness is unique feature of Indian society. Festival celebration is integral part of our cultural richness. As per the Evolution theory we are in the era of Cultural Evolution. However somewhere we are diverting our approach.
Every person has right to live their life with all personal liberties. We always fight for our fundamental rights; however we never think and follow our fundamental duties as mentioned in our constitution.
We celebrates festivals, occasions, rituals (marriage, birthday) etc. In Indian society irrespective of religion we take heartily active participation. Now a days we have forgotten to think about environment degradation, pollution, among celebrations.
Goddess puja is really spreading brotherhood, peace among each other. During enjoyment we pray with almighty for prosperity and well being of society. However at present scenario we have to also think about prosperity of future generation and all living being.
My point here is that the idol which made of chemicals, paint containing lead, mercury and so many toxic element if will submerged in water bodies, then what happens to water environment, plant and animal life. As the human population is increasing the number of idol is increasing. As the competition among Puja-Samities increasing size of idol is also raising. We pray for prosperity and well being, how it will come when water plant, fish and other living creature will die due to lead (Pb) poisoning, suffocation and water pollution. We are responsible for such killing and deterioration of water quality.
Today we are going in river bank to take holy dip. Is really a holy dip when we are polluting river water by washing with detergents and soap? We are throwing flower garlands, and other remaining with polythene in water bodies. Is really worthful to do such activity as we believe river is like our mother. We always giving excuse that river is so big what will impact mine only. If population of more than one billion will have same thinking then what will be future. I am not going to discuss other major reasons of pollution like industrial, fertilisers etc.
In India Dipawali is always celebrated with fervour and gaiety. But we never bother about air and noise pollution due to crackers and fireworks. Year by year as population increasing such activity increasing. We never think about Green House Effect, Global Warming, harmful hydrocarbons and other toxic emissions. Impact of such air pollution is clearly visible. Today you will never get natural fragrance of Pink Rose or other flower as were earlier. You can’t find mind blowing fragrance of rice variety of Chinnor or Jeerashankar, why so? There are so many extinction of beauty of nature.
Earlier we were used to play Holi with natural colour of Tesu (Palash). Today we are playing with chemicals colours; paint, varnish etc. again here water bodies’ pollution, skin allergies problems, etc.
Everyone likes glittering light in celebrations or festivals. We never think more than 16 hour power cut in my rural India. In country where shortage of electricity, we waste or overuse it. Is it really gives peace and enjoyment to you?
Although there are lot of reasons for environmental pollution, but do not give excuse or don’t be cynical, in the name of religion, liberty or entertainment. God never say enjoy and kill living animals, plants and future generations.
Think about sustainable and holistic development. Be spiritual not a fundamentalist religious. The causative agent is possible to control by our realistic approach. Enjoy each and every moment in life, but meanwhile think about others and environment. Now think deeply about your thinking.
